His designs, writing and illustrations have appeared in Sacred Architecture, First Things, Antiphon: A Journal of Liturgical Renewal, and The Living Church, while his art is in collections from California to Singapore and Spain to Australia. In 2010, he was commissioned by Liturgy Training Publications of Chicago to produce 15 full-page illustrations for their landmark altar edition of the Revised Roman Missal. In 2011, he produced over 50 illustrations for HarperCollins UK's Sunday and Weekday Missals. From 2013 onward, he has designed full-color triptych-style Christmas cards for FAITH Catholic, publishers to 29 U.S. Catholic dioceses, beginning on the 10th anniversary of their founding. He is also one of America's few heraldic artists, producing designs and renderings of coats of arms, seals, banners and related art for institutions, churches, schools, dioceses, clergy and private individuals. In 2013 he designed a new seal for the Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio, the only pontifical college outside of Rome. Since then, he has also been commissioned to redraw the official depictions of the arms of two American dioceses, Charlotte and New Ulm. In 2015, he taught a course on Sacred Architecture accredited by the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome as part of a summer program for American seminarians, The Rome Experience. He also recently completed a walking pilgrimage to Santiago, going the last seventy miles of the Camino on foot.
Matthew Alderman has also undertaken a number of design consulting projects. From 2006-2010 he created designs for an extensive range of furnishings, including a 40-foot-tall altarpiece, for the historic proto-cathedral of Vladivostok, Russia. He is the design consultant for the new St. Paul University Catholic Center in Madison, Wisconsin, and the furnishing and interiors consultant for Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church in Greenville, South Carolina, now nearing completion, and for the ongoing renovation of the 1889 Church of St. Stephen in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
